Nairobi County To Hire 194 New Drivers And Plant Operators

Nairobi :Wednesday, 01 November 2023
Nairobi City County is set to hire 114 drivers and 80 plant operators to bring efficiency in the County and replace the ageing staff in the Mobility and works sector.

Over 250 shortlisted drivers and plant operators shortlisted last month attended the interviews held yesterday, Tuesday 31 October, by the Nairobi City County at the Joe Kadenge Stadium with the Nairobi City County Public Service Board (NCCPSB). Over 15,000 people had applied for these positions which are crucial in running the operations of the county including road construction.

“The recruitment exercise will enable the county to have its own drivers and plant operators. The recruitment is timely, we have an aged workforce, most of our current drivers will be over 55 years in the next few years and will be retiring. Had we failed to recruit drivers now we would have a lot of problems in the future,” said Chief Officer Mobility, Mr. Boniface Nyamu.

Currently the county has two plant operators employed with the rest being casual workers.

During this process priority was given to former NMS drivers and plant operators, who met the qualifications since majority of them have been providing quality service.

“These drivers and operators have been working with us, some under NMS and others as casuals. We decided we confirm them because they have experience,” said the Chairman NCCPSB Mr. Thomas Kassoa.

Mr. Stanely Maina, one of the shortlisted candidates said: “I was hired by NMS and continued in the county under a contract, which expired. I applied when the position of driver was advertised, and I was lucky to be one of the shortlisted candidates. I thank Governor Sakaja for giving us these employment opportunities as city youths and I am hoping to be one of the recruited county driver”.
