Nairobi City County Government will soon embark on the construction of Mwariro hawkers Market under Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project (NAMSIP).
This was said in Mombasa, during the opening session of performance management that will culminate in the signing of the annual performance contract 2020/2021 by the County Executives.
Said Trade and Tourism, County Executive, Winnie Gathangu, “We are currently putting in place compensation and relocation arrangements of traders to pave way for the construction of the New Karandini Market in conjunction with NAMSIP. So far 90% work is done and it will soon be unveiled by H.E Deputy Governor and acting Governor, H. E Ann Kananu.”
Ms. Gathangu also mentioned that the construction of City Park Market was 90% complete. Nairobi City County would soon embark on the construction of Gikomba Fish Market, Kwareli Market, Uhuru Market along Jogoo Road and the Construction of Leather Factory at Kariokor. Said Ms. Gathangu, (i) Karandini market cost of project, Kshs 342m – traders capacity – 400. No. of stalls 204.
(ii) Mwawiro market – Kshs 431m- traders capacity 500 – no. of stalls – 368
(iii) New Kangundo road market – Kshs 1.08B – trader’s capacity – 2500- no. of stalls – 370
(iv) Wetlands market – Kshs700m – trader’s capacity – 4,000.no. of stalls – 360. In total Nairobi City County will invest a total of Kshs 2.553B, to put up a total of 1,302 stalls which will provide a livelihood to a total of 4,000 traders in the City.”
Acting County Secretary, Dr. Jairus Musumba, said “The entire process is to institutionalize the culture of performance management in NCCG as a strategy to institutionalize support supervision with a view to improving service delivery.
- E. Anne Kananu is expected to sign Performance contracts with respective County Executives for 2021/2022.
