Nairobi, 5th December 2025
Nairobi County has launched its festive season giving drive, a flagship social services sub sector outreach programme designed to support children and older persons living in County-run homes. The initiative was unveiled by the County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Mr. Godfrey Akumali, together with the Chief Officer for Social Services and Estate Housing, Mr. Tony Michael Kimani.
Mr. Akumali described the drive as a reaffirmation of dignity and humanity for the County’s most vulnerable residents, noting that while many families come together during the festive season, those in County homes rely on the collective goodwill of the community. He emphasized that the programme offers a practical opportunity for county staff and Nairobi residents to extend the joy of Christmas to children and older persons in care.
He encouraged staff and members of the public to donate a wide range of items, including but not limited to, food, detergents, sanitary pads, shoes, clothing, textbooks, and storybooks, highlighting that education materials remain especially valuable in promoting growth and development.
Chief Officer Tony Kimani underscored the strategic value of the initiative, stating that it represents an investment in dignity and calling on county staff and general public to lead with empathy and demonstrate commitment to an inclusive and caring Nairobi.
To enhance accessibility, a central donation desk has been established at City Hall, alongside collection points in all 17 sub-counties at the Sub-County Administrators’ offices.
The donation period runs until 22nd December 2025, giving staff and the public ample time to participate.
County Director for Family and Children Services, Mr. Robert Muema, noted that they are fully prepared to coordinate the drive, citing strong cross-sectoral collaboration aimed at delivering meaningful welfare outcomes.
The drive reinforces the County’s broader commitment to social protection, while cultivating a culture of corporate citizenship among County staff.
Contributions will directly support children’s and older persons’ homes across Makadara, Kayole, Shauri Moyo, Joseph Kang’ethe, and Mji wa Huruma.
Also in attendance were Chief Officer Smart Nairobi Clement Rapudo Sijenyi, Assistant Director Children and Rehabilitation Rosemary Kibathi, Assistant Director Family Affairs Fred Ogutu, Director Customer Service Lydia Gatheru, officers from the Social Services Sub-Sector and various County sectors.
