Nairobi, 31st, July, 2023
Nairobi County Executive for Hustlers and Business Opportunities, Ms. Maureen Njeri (pictured in red) toured the backlanes in the CBD where about 6,500 hawkers will be relocated to in the coming months.
Says County Executive Njeri, “We intend to relocate the hawkers and create order in the CBD as per our RRI targets. The Nairobi City County Government has initiated the process of relocating informal traders operating within the Central Business District to the back lanes. Governor Sakaja wants small-time traders to flourish under his leadership, but he also wants order in the city. This is why the Governor approved businesses owned by men and women to set up in the back lanes. It is also to ensure they trade in a dignified manner. The prototype lanes will have sheds erected and electricity installed to improve the working conditions of the traders.”
Other areas within the CBD earmarked for this exercise include Sotik, Turkana, Dubois, Posta, and kirinyaga, among others.
