The Nairobi County team excelled in athletics, team sports, and cultural performances. The medal tally included 11 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze, setting them apart from other counties. Events like track and field, football, volleyball, and choir performances highlighted the team’s diverse talent.
In football, the Ladies team won a nail-biting final against Kajiado County, scoring and setting a record in 2024 after beating their opponents 10 – 0. In the athletics, the Men’s 4×400 and 4×100 became the stars of the competition, bagging gold in both races.
Meanwhile, the women’s Netball team swept past their opponents to clinch the championship, earning gold.
The team’s success was attributed not only to the athletes but also to the support and leadership of Chief Officers for Youth, Talent, and Sports, Oscar Igaida and Tony Kimani, popularly known as “Kanju 1.”
Chief Officer Oscar Igaida, a passionate advocate for youth empowerment, praised the athletes for their hard work and commitment. “This victory belongs to Nairobi’s talented youth. They have shown the country what dedication can achieve. Our goal is to continue nurturing talent and providing platforms for excellence,” he said during the closing ceremony.
Chief Officer Tony Kimani, aka “Kanju 1” reflects his deep connection to the city and was equally elated.
“Nairobi is not just a city of hustlers but also of champions. These games are proof that with the right support and training, our youth can shine in any stage,” he remarked.
As the champions return home to Nairobi, the victory has inspired a renewed focus on sports and youth programs within the county. Both Chiefs Igaida and Kimani announced plans by Governor Sakaja to establish more training facilities, recruit expert coaches, and expand funding for sports initiatives.
