Nairobi County Chief Officers; Ms. Jane Wangui (Markets and Trade), Mr. Oscar Omoke (Water and Sanitation), and Mr. John Lintari (Economic Planning), alongside the Director General of the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), Dr. Bruno Linyiru yesterday conducted a site visit to Miraa Market in Ziwani Kariokor. They also toured New Ngara Market and Chai Road Market. These locations are key hubs for the sale of Miraa and Mogoka, and the visit comes in preparation for the upcoming groundbreaking ceremony of the new modern Miraa Market at Ziwani Kariokor, to be presided over by Nairobi Governor H.E Sakaja Johnson.
Ms. Wangũi described the forthcoming modern Miraa Market as a major development poised to significantly transform trade dynamics by fostering stronger connections between Meru, Embu, and Nairobi while also linking local producers and vendors to both domestic and global markets.
According to the Markets and Trade Chief Officers, the New Modern Miraa Market in Ziwani Kariokor will be the central hub for wholesale, packaging, and distribution. It will also have a research area. The market will include other amenities such as a social hall, lactation room, ICT hub with free Wi-Fi, a perimeter wall for security purposes, and cold rooms for food storage among other amenities.
“The Markets and Trade Sub-Sector remains committed to delivering a dignified trading environment for vendors, fostering hope, and generating opportunities to promote trade and business development,” she added.
