Nairobi County bolsters urban health with landmark Qatar-Amref partnership

Nairobi, 27th February​, 2026

Nairobi City County has solidified a strategic partnership with Amref Health Africa to launch the Urban Health Project, a high-impact initiative funded by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).

The project is set to transform primary healthcare delivery in Nairobi’s most populous informal settlements, including Kibera, Mathare, Korogocho, and Mukuru.

​During today’s project’s inception meeting, CECM for Health Ms. Suzanne Silantoi emphasized the strategic importance of the move; ​”This initiative is not only timely but perfectly aligned with the County’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of all Nairobians by advancing primary healthcare to where it is needed most.”
Qataramref 1The project will focus on three critical pillars; strengthening health facility infrastructure, improving WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) services and expanding the health workforce.

​The meeting was attended by a high-level technical team, including County Chief Officer for Facilities David Sande and Directors Dr. Peter Mugoi, Dr. Carol Ngunu, and Dr. Moses Owino, marking a unified front in the county’s mission to achieve universal health coverage.
