Nairobi City County Teams Up With Kenya China Chamber Of Commerce To Empower Youth Through Vocational Training Program

NAIROBI: 30th August 2023

The County Executive for Talent, Skills Development and Care Ms. Rosemary Kariuki held discussions with partners from Kenya China Chamber of Commerce and industry to explore areas of partnership.

Working with the Kenya China Chamber of Commerce and industry under a joint program, the organizations will begin offering skills training to young people through a vocational training program. The Vocational Training program is a sponsored training program and will be implemented in Nairobi County. Youth from the community aged between 15 years of age and 18 years will be enrolled in our vocational training institutes to pursue short courses that will take a month or more to complete. This is to economically empower them by building their technical skills, informed by market needs, so as to enhance their livelihoods.

Said the County Executive “Due to several social and economic challenges, especially the youth. The journey in education for youngest people has gone as far as completing the primary level, after which they do not progress further due to a lack of funds. Their dream of going to school seem impossible, but through this partnership and the vocational training program supported by the Kenya China Chamber of Commerce and industry, they will have hope and opportunity.”

“We are also looking for partners who will support the students’ graduation with start-up kits which come in handy to help them kick-start their careers and open doors to new possibilities.” She added.

In attendance was Dr. Margaret Mwakima, former PS Technical Vocational Education and Training and Deputy Director for Vocational Education and Training Nairobi County Mr. Leornad Mititi.
