Nairobi City County forges a formal working relationship with the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The signing of the MOU was necessitated by the need for the newly created Research and Policy Development Department, a directorate under the office of the County Secretary, to provide technical guidance and coordination of research and policy development by monitoring, evaluating, and implementing policies within Nairobi City County.
Speaking at the event, County Attorney Ms. Christine Ireri lauded KIPPRA for partnering with the County for technical support. “The creation of the research and Policy Department is the pillar that will support the county in coming up with evidence based policies that will define how the County relates with Mwananchi in the provision of public goods and services “Ms. Ireri said.
Dr. Rose Ngugi, the Executive Director of KIPPRA, also stated that in order for the Country to reach its GDP targets, there is a need to boost productivity in the counties and KIPPRA is undertaking research that is geared on informing counties on their position. Research is critical in informing policies, a journey they are willing to guide on through technical support and capacity building
Present at the event were Mr. Peter Ogolla, the County Director of Administration, Dr. Eldana Onsomu, the Director of KIPPRA, and other officers from both the County and KIPPRA.
