Nairobi City County Staff in all the 17 sub counties joined volunteers, corporates and Environmental organizations and activists to mark World Clean-up day an event marked in 191 countries.
The event is used to highlight and tackle the global waste problem in order to build a sustainable world for all.
Nairobi City County’s Environment sector continues to collect waste and conduct city clean ups day and night. According to Ibrahim Nyakach, Deputy Director, Environment, his team has so far collected 26, 627 Tons from county fleet, PSPs and Solid waste contractors after Nairobi County Governor Sakaja Johnson directed that all garbage within Nairobi City is removed and collected.
The County boss gave the orders after touring various parts of the City and witnessed heaps of uncollected garbage. Governor Sakaja directed the environment team to work round the clock and ensure the removal of heaps of garbage currently chocking the city.
Said Governor Sakaja, “I commit to resolve this garbage menace experienced in several parts of the city. This is a priority area for my administration.”
Other players have also come on board to help Nairobi City County Governments’ effort of cleaning and greening the city. Currently street sweeping within CBD is taking place in the below listed areas:-
