Nairobi City County, through the Department of Mobility and Public Works led by CECM Ibrahim Auma, oversaw the restoration of street lights in the Nairobi CBD.
The city has largely remained well-lit and secure, except for isolated cases of vandalism and the aftermath of demonstrations that damaged critical electrical infrastructure.
Speaking during the night exercise, Auma reaffirmed the county’s commitment in making sure Nairobi is brighter and safer, “We remain dedicated to restoring normalcy and ensuring Nairobi stays bright and safe for all residents and visitors, despite the setbacks caused by vandalism and demonstrations. Street lighting is not just about visibility. It’s about creating a safer, more vibrant, and more accessible city for everyone. As administration, we are determined to make it work,” Auma said.
The restoration exercise is part of an ongoing countywide program aimed at enhancing security, boosting night-time business, and improving the overall urban experience for residents and visitors. By swiftly repairing vandalized and damaged infrastructure, the county is ensuring that the gains made in lighting up Nairobi are not rolled back.
CECM Auma also thanked a joint team of security officers from the National Police Service (NPS) and County Security and Compliance Department, who have remained vigilant in patrolling the CBD to ensure vandals are apprehended and dealt with within the law. Their continued presence has played a crucial role in safeguarding Nairobi’s infrastructure investments and public safety.
