Nairobi City County hosts Kayole South got talent: Empowering youth and championing a drug-free future.

The Nairobi City County Government Liquor Department in partnership with Collins Ogenga Kayole South Member of County Assembly hosted Kayole South Got Talent 2024 Season 2 at the Kayole II Community Centre.

Themed “Zero Drugs, Hero Results,” the event, showcased H.E. Governor Johnson Sakaja’s commitment to empowering youth by creating a future free from the grip of drugs and substance abuse.

Member of County Assembly Hon. Collins Onge’nga emphasized, “Empowerment is the antidote to addiction. By giving our youth a stage to shine, we are building a society where they can thrive without the crutch of drugs.” assuring the community members of more opportunities to come and the next Forum it will be bigger and better.

Mr. Mwaka Mwola Liquor Board Secretariat representative emphasized the importance of empowering youth while addressing the dangers of substance abuse. “The theme ‘Zero Drugs, Hero Results’ is a powerful reminder that success is rooted in resilience and purpose. Our role as the Liquor Board is to protect and educate, ensuring our youth understand the dangers of addiction and embrace a brighter, drug-free future,” he remarked, urging the community to unite in creating a supportive environment for young people to thrive.

Dr. Ann from Sinai Rehabilitation Center shared insight on supporting those battling addiction, emphasizing that recovery is possible with the right help. “Excessive alcohol consumption not only destroys individuals but tears apart families and communities. Together, we must act to protect our youth and create a brighter future,” she said.

The event, championed by Kayole South MCA Collins Onge’nga, brought together a community determined to showcase talent, celebrate resilience, and fight drug addiction. It featured performances including modeling, dancing, singing, comedy, and acrobatic displays, offering an empowerment platform for Kayole’s talents.

The performances went beyond entertainment offering a masterclass in education and advocacy. A drama presentation vividly illustrated the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption, while a heartfelt “shairi” called on the community to rescue youth from addiction and a spoken-word performance echoed the struggles and triumphs of young people grappling with substance abuse.

The program emphasized on empowering the youth as the first step in building a drug-free society. Through initiatives like Kayole South Got Talent.

Winners received certificates, gift hampers, vouchers, and trophies, the 2nd, 1st runners-up and the winner celebrating their talent and commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.

In attendance were, County Government officials, liquor board members, Sub county liquor committee members, Neighboring MCAs. Youth leaders, Communication Officers, partners and the community.
