Nairobi City County Hosts Bolt Safety and Training workshop to Strengthen Road Safety and Professionalize Ride Services

Nairobi, 17th July 2025

Nairobi City County yesterday hosted a comprehensive road safety and professional development training workshop for Bolt drivers and riders at Charter Hall. The event, convened in collaboration with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the National Police Service (NPS), Bolt, and other key stakeholders, was aimed at enhancing safety, promoting professionalism, and fostering stronger partnerships across the urban mobility ecosystem.

The workshop gathered together the app-based drivers, riders, transport enforcers, and other key stakeholders to address pressing issues in road safety, customer service, and industry collaboration, reflecting a growing demand for safer, smarter, and more organized mobility services across Nairobi

In his keynote address, the County Executive Committee Member for Mobility and Works, Mr. Ibrahim Auma, emphasized Nairobi’s commitment to modernizing urban transport.

“This training comes at a pivotal moment in Nairobi’s transport journey. As app-based mobility becomes part of daily life, our approach to safety and professionalism must evolve just as quickly. I’m proud to stand with everyone here today, including Bolt. This summit reflects the kind of holistic thinking needed to reshape how our city moves,” He said. “Safety isn’t just about enforcement; it’s about shaping culture. Public-private partnerships are no longer a luxury—they’re a necessity.” Added Mr. Auma.
Roadsafety 4Emphasizing on the importance of strong customer relations and work ethic among digital taxi drivers, Mr. Sande Oyolo, the County Chief Officer for Digital Economy and Start-ups, encouraged Bolt to take user feedback seriously and improve customer satisfaction. He also urged the Mobility app company to champion the transition to electric vehicles as a way to curb air pollution in the city.

Representing the National Police Service, Traffic Commandant Dr. Fredrick Ochieng reiterated NPS’s commitment to road safety through traffic enforcement, accident reduction, and public education. “Safe driving reduces accidents and saves lives,” he said, identifying key risk factors such as drunk driving, phone usage, speeding, and fatigue. He commended the training for supporting police efforts through proactive driver training.

NTSA’s Road Safety Programs Manager, Mr. Samuel Musumba, stressed the importance of shared responsibility in achieving safer roads. “We cannot achieve road safety if we do not work together,” he noted. Outlining NTSA’s role in policy enforcement, driver licensing, and vehicle inspection, he assured Kenya’s commitment to cutting road deaths by 50% under the 2024–2028 Road Safety Action Plan.
Roadsafety 2Participants also received first aid training from St. John Ambulance, providing life-saving skills to better prepare for on-road emergencies, underlining that road safety also means response readiness.

Other critical areas tackled included customer relations, traffic law compliance, digital platform usage, personal safety, and professional etiquette.

Speaking on behalf of Bolt, Mr. Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager for Rides in Kenya, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to user safety. “At Bolt, safety remains our top priority. We continue to invest in cutting-edge technology and innovations to protect our users. We are also dedicated to fostering strategic partnerships with government and industry to ensure compliance and excellence in service delivery.” He said.

The participants were encouraged to see the training not as a one-time event, but the beginning of continuous learning, cooperation, and shared accountability.

Top-performing Bolt Food couriers were also recognized and celebrated for their outstanding service and professionalism in the industry.
