Nairobi, 24th February, 2021
Nairobi City County Government has today entered into a partnership with National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC- K) to put up a world class sports facility at Muhuri Muchiri grounds in Ruai.
This project championed by the County Executive for Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Ouko, will soon break ground for the construction of Phase I which is expected to have a modern training facilities to the youth in Kenya with sporting talents will have a 400M running track/football field, indoor gymnasium for multiple sports, hostels and health Centre, spectator stands, volleyball, basketball, handball tennis courts and a swimming pool at a cost of USD 350,000.
Said Deputy Governor and Acting Governor, Ann Kananu “I am honored to partner with Noc-k in this noble cause which will be instrumental in nurturing sporting talents in Nairobi City. My government will fully support the construction of this project. I would like to urge NOC-K to put up more of these facilities in all our Seventeen Sub- counties. When our youths are busy it minimizes idleness, drunkenness and drugs usage. I also encourage all the County Executive Committee Members to bring in more donors who are willing to partner with Nairobi County for the betterment of our City. I direct my County Attorney to have the draft of the Memorandum of Understanding ready to fastrack the partnership process.”
This partnership aims at promoting sports and build a better world through sports through the youth. It will also offer an opportunity for maximal development of sports talent, while promoting social development in Nairobi.
The NOC-K team was led by Deputy President Mr. Shedrack Maluki.
