Nairobi City County Governor, Sakaja Johnson, today officially flagged off the County’s formidable delegation heading to Siaya County for the 2025 Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games.
The strong contingent of Nairobi county employees will depart Nairobi before the official commencement of the games, scheduled to run from November 22nd to November 30th, with the main events being held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium.
Nairobi County is the reigning overall champion, having clinched the title at the previous edition in Kakamega County in 2024.
Addressing the team during the ceremony, flanked by Brian Mulama, County Executive, Talent and Skills Development Care, County Executives; Ibrahim Auma ( Mobility), Dr. Anastasia Nyalita ( BHO) , Suzanne Silantoi( Health),Godfrey Akumali- Ag. County Secretary, Oscar Igaida – Chief Officer, Sports, Zipporah Mwangi, Chief Officer (City Culture, Arts and Tourism).
Governor Sakaja Johnson delivered a message of motivation and support, challenging the athletes and cultural performers to maintain Nairobi’s dominance in the highly competitive inter-county festival.
“You are here today because you represent the very best of Nairobi—not just in talent, but in discipline and commitment,” Governor Sakaja stated. “I congratulate each and every one of you for earning the right to carry our county’s flag. We are the champions, and we must not just defend that title, we must cement our legacy and bring it back home.”
Nairobi is expected to face stiff competition from perennial rivals such as Uasin Gishu and Kisumu counties. The team will compete in numerous events, aiming for top honours in key disciplines, including: Football (Men and Women), Basketball, Netball, Handball, and Volleyball, Choir, Cultural Dance, Chess, Table Tennis, Squash, and Athletics.
The 2025 KICOSCA Games, hosted by Siaya County, will use the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium as the central hub, with various other venues in Siaya town and Kisumu hosting ancillary events.
