Nairobi, 29th October, 2023
Nairobi City County Executive for Talent, Skills Development and Care, Rosemary Kariuki joined runners at the 20th Edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon that took place today in the City.
The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon holds a special place in the Athletics Kenya calendar since inception as the first major marathon attracting thousands of participants. The event has become the signature annual sports event and social event that brings together runners and supporters from all over the country as well as foreign participants to Nairobi, the beautiful capital city of Kenya and home of the greatest distance runners in the world.
Last week the County presented Kshs 8M as part of Nairobi City County Governments’ sponsorship towards the 20th Edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon. The Marathon received over 178 million as sponsorship. The amount included support from over 38 partners, enabling a more vibrant marathon experience for participants. This comes as more than 270,000 runners have participated in the Marathon and over KES 750 million raised to support various impact initiatives over the years.
Said Ms. Kariuki, who was accompanied by members of staff from the sports subsector, “Nairobi City County is thrilled to be part of the sponsors of the 20th edition. I am excited for Standard Chartered Bank to have raised KES. 178 million towards this noble cause. We will continue working together to meet the objectives of the marathon.
“Nairobi County has been part of this noble cause, over the years the County has seen Standard Chartered built an event that has placed Kenya and Nairobi in particular on the international map. All proceeds of the marathon go towards ‘Future makers’ by Standard Chartered, an initiative with a community approach to help the youth learn, earn and grow. We are glad to be part of this as we continue nurturing the youth by providing such platforms.” Said the County Executive.
