The Nairobi City County Executive for Health, Wellness and Nutrition, Dr. Anastasia Nyalita and Health Advisor to the governor, Dr. Samora Otieno hosted the French Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Arnaud Suguet, on behalf of Governor Sakaja.
The French Government through UNITAID and Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) has collaborated and partnered with Nairobi City County Health, Wellness and Nutrition Sector and the Ministry of Health to scale up prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer in line with the WHO Global 90:70:90 targets which aims at elimination of the diseases by 2030.
Dr. Nyalita said, “Out of 63, 000 women of reproductive age who had been screened by end of 2022 , 2% were diagnosed with positive pre-cancerous cervical cancer lesions and immediately put on treatment. We continued to greatly benefit from our collaborative partners through assistance such as donation of equipment and consumables, policy development, dissemination & implementation, and training of health care workers.”
Dr. Nyalita also highlighted that the Nairobi County school feeding program set for roll out in September 2023 was a move in improving the nutritional status and education outcomes in the county.
Dr. Nyangasi, Head, National Cancer Control Program at MOH applauded Nairobi City County for having a comprehensive health package that includes Nutrition and wellness which will reduce the social behavior risk factors for non-communicable diseases by 40%, notably; Optimal nutrition, Reduction in alcohol and tobacco use and physical activity.
