Nairobi City County Chief Officer for Food, Agriculture and Forestry Mr. Halkano Waqo has termed Agriculture a key sector which needs to be taken seriouly as people need food and lack of it would increase crime rat in the city.
The County Chief Officer was speaking during a workshop for Sectoral Committee of Agriculture and the sector heads in Mombasa County.
The main objectives of the joint retreat was to review sector achievements for the financial year 2020/2021, update the committee on the current 2020/2021 sector activities and to create synergies between the Committee Members and the sector staff.
The immediate outgoing Chair of Nairobi City County Assembly Agriculture Committee Hon. Mary Ariviza lauded the Agriculture Sector team for the support they accorded her during her tenure as the chair person.
Hon. Ariviza said that one of her biggest achievement as the Chair of the Agriculture Committee, was being able to push for the increment of the sector budget.
Said Hon. Ariviza,”I have been greatly honoured to serve as Chair of the sector committee. And now as a member of Agriculture Sector committee I look forward to working together for greater achievements.”
The incoming Chair of the Agriculture Committee and Member of the County Assembly for Zimmerman Hon. Pius Mwaura thanked the committee members for having trust in him. “As the new Chair, I will commit to ensuring implementation of Agriculture projects is achieved and priories. I know I have alot to do but I’m equal to the task. I will engage the Executive to see things done and challenges solved. With the few days remaining we can bring an impact”.
Hon. Mwaura was elected the Chair, Agriculture Committee yesterday by the members of Assembly sectoral committee on Agriculture.
