Nairobi, 31st October, 2021
Nairobi City County Acting Governor, Ann Kananu today flagged the 42km men and women’s competition during the 18th edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon held today at the Carnivore grounds.
Elisha Kiprop and Valentine Keter won the men’s and women’s 42km races respectively and each walked away with KShs 2 million winners prize money.
Twelve (12)year old Benjamin Mogambi and Thirteen ( 13 ) year old Ryan Mwenda completed 21 km during today’s 18th edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon. Becoming the youngest finishers .
Said Ms Kananu, “Thank you Standard Chartered, event organizers, Athletics Kenya and all your partners for continuing to build an event that has become internationally renowned and continues to place Kenya and more importantly Nairobi on the international map. Thank you for staying committed to Nairobi not only by sponsoring this marathon which is a flagship project for ‘Future Makers’ a community initiative whose goal is to raise 50 million USD by 2023 to tackle inequality and promote economic inclusion for our younger generation and also a hunting ground for nurturing athletics talent in the country.”
Said Ms Kananu, “I want to extend my heartiest congratulations to all the winners, to those who did not win today, your participation in itself is a resounding victory! Remember my government is 100% behind this event and will continue to fully support it.
I also thank Standard Chartered bank for continually choosing Nairobi City as the host City of this great event.
