Nairobi, 7th February 2026
Nairobi City County Government has validated the 2025 Nairobi Health Scientific Conference Report and formally commenced planning for the 2026 Nairobi Health Scientific Conference, reaffirming its commitment to evidence-based healthcare planning and innovation for residents of the city.
County health leadership used the forum to emphasize the importance of research that responds to real health needs on the ground. There was a strong call to balance operational research with interventional research — studies that not only improve systems but also test practical solutions that directly improve health outcomes and save lives.
Research generated through the Nairobi Health Scientific Conference continues to guide key decisions within the County, including investments in health infrastructure, improvements in service delivery, and initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of healthcare workers across County health facilities. Evidence from the conference has become a critical tool in how facilities are planned, equipped, and managed to deliver better patient care.
The County also reiterated the central role of nutrition and wellness in building long-term population health. Evidence-driven nutrition and preventive health programmes, such as school feeding and community-based nutrition initiatives, were highlighted as essential components of both scientific inquiry and policy formulation.
In addition, Nairobi City County Government underscored the growing importance of digital health solutions in strengthening healthcare access and disease surveillance. Innovations such as artificial intelligence and telemedicine were identified as key enablers for early detection, improved monitoring, and expanded access to quality care, particularly for vulnerable populations.
As planning for the 2026 Nairobi Health Scientific Conference begins, the County endorsed priority thematic areas that reflect both current and emerging health challenges. These include One Health and multi-sectoral collaboration, Cancer and Palliative Care, Chronic Illnesses including Geriatric Care, and Climate Change and Health.
Nairobi City County Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration between researchers, healthcare workers, policymakers, and partners, ensuring that scientific evidence continues to translate into meaningful health improvements for all Nairobi residents.
The workshop was attended by all four County Chief Officers from the Health, Wellness and Nutrition sector, reflecting strong leadership involvement across Medical Services, Public Health, Nutrition and Wellness, and Health Facilities subsectors.
