Nairobi, 11th December, 2024
A total of thirteen projects covering Mutuini, Riruta, Kayole South, Uthiru/Ruthimitu, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, and Kawangware wards have been completed between 2023/2024 significantly improving mobility in these areas.
H.E. Governor Sakaja Johnson recently instructed the Mobility and Works Department to prioritize the re carpeting, rehabilitation, and repair of roads to enhance infrastructure and improve mobility across the city.
Nairobi County Government is advancing efforts to modernize infrastructure and promote equitable development across all wards. These initiatives are guided by the Governor’s mission to create a “City of Order, Dignity, and Opportunity for All,” enhancing the quality of life for Nairobi residents through impactful projects.
The Ward Development Programme stands as a critical pillar of the county’s infrastructure agenda, emphasizing sustainable urban transformation. Through targeted improvements in roads, public spaces, and community facilities, the administration is dedicated to delivering transformative services.
To improve accessibility, connectivity, and ease traffic congestion, Nairobi County has upgraded several key roads across various wards, covering a total of 3.9 kilometres. Notable upgrades include Muthangari Gardens Road in Kilimani, Suguta Road, Mugoiri Road, Muhia Road, and Hamisi Road in Kileleshwa. In Mutuini, enhancements to the Special School Road and Mutuini-Njiku Catholic Road have significantly improved access, while new developments in Ruthimitu/Uthiru Ward, such as Kikuyu Road and Ruthimitu Primary Road, are fostering smoother mobility for both residents and businesses.
Additionally, a modern parking facility and drainage system in Kawangware shopping centre have eased congestion and mitigated flooding, while streetlight installations in Riruta Ward have enhanced safety. The development of a modern resource center in Kayole South Ward provides a hub for learning, innovation, and community engagement, reinforcing the county’s commitment to inclusive growth.
Speaking on the impact of these initiatives, Eng. Eston Kimathi, CEO of the Ward Development Programme, said, “These projects demonstrate our dedication to addressing the infrastructure needs of our communities. By upgrading critical amenities, we are laying the foundation for economic growth, social cohesion, and a dignified urban life for all. These initiatives are a significant step towards achieving H.E. Governor Sakaja’s vision.”
As Nairobi continues to expand, the County Government remains steadfast in its mission to foster equitable development, invest in transformative infrastructure, and collaborate with residents to redefine urban living in the city.
