The County Executive Committee Member for Green Nairobi Ms. Maureen Njeri on Sunday night led the green army staff in Central Business District (CBD) mega cleanup drive aimed at enhancing cleanliness in the capital City.
The night long exercise involved streets sweeping, litter collection and washing of specific streets which included high pressure washing of CBD’s major plazas around archives and Tom Mboya road median leaving the City impressively clean.
Ms. Njeri said in the coming days, the team will also concentrate on clearing drainage channels and clearing of overgrown vegetation in preparation for the long rains expected in the month of March.
The Green Nairobi boss asked all Sub County Environment Officers to liaise with the Sub county administrators and commanders in ensuring illegal structures constructed on top of storm water drains are removed for ease of cleaning.
“This cleanup operation is one of Nairobi Governor’s great initiatives to improve the overall cleanliness and appearance of Nairobi’s Central Business District. To compliment these efforts, it is important for all residents and businesses to also play their part in keeping the city clean and maintaining a sustainable environment.” She added.
Ms. Njeri was joined by Mr. David Njoroge (County Chief of Staff), Mr. Charles Kerich (CECM Finance), Mr. Brian Mulama (CECM for Talent, Skills development and Care) Dr. Anastasia Nyalita (CECM Business and Hustler Opportunities) and Ms. Christine Ireri (Ag. County Attorney).
Also present were Chief Officers; Mr. Geoffrey Mosiria (Environment), Mr. Tom Nyakaba (Public Health), Mr. Hibrahim Otieno (Public Health Facilities), Ms. Eva Wairiuko (Security Compliance) and the County Director, Environment and Natural Resources Mr. John Paul Malawi.
