Launch of Covid- 19 Materials at Chieko Nursery,Kasarani SubCounty.
The County Executive Committee Member for Education, Janet Ouko accompanied by Chief Officer Education Ruth Owuor today launched the distribution of Covid- 19 materials to Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) schools at Chieko nursery school in Kasarani Subcounty.
The materials which were donated by the ECD Network for Kenya includes 50 hand washing stations,1600 face masks and 24000 story books for the pupils.
The CEC expressed her gratitude to the ECD Network for the support.
“My desire is to improve service in the community and that’s why I’m championing for ECD improvement. In the next two months, construction work for a ECD complex will begin in Chieko nursery. My dream is to have modern ECD centres in all the 85 Wards by 2022”. Said Janet.
The CEC also added that 520 ECD teachers will be recruited by March 2022, with priority being given to the volunteer teachers. 79 more teachers who have exited the work force will also be replaced.
Madam Janet also promised that the free ECDE funds will be released in two weeks’ time.
Chieko nursery was started in 2019 and hosts 140 ECD learners. Construction of primary classes is under way.
ECD Network for Kenya, whose goal is to contribute to inclusive and equitable quality Early Childhood Development opportunities for children 0-8years. Dr. Teresa the ECD Network Chairperson promised more support for Chieko Nursery and other schools.
The event was attended by the Kasarani Ward MCA Antony Ngaruiya, Kasarani Sub County Administrator Charles Mutinda, ECD Network Chairman, Leornad Chump, County Education Officers from all 17 Sub Counties, ECD and Centres Managers.
