Kangundo road market set to provide 1600 stalls to various Nairobi youth and traders in the city.

Nairobi City County Executive Committee Member  for Business and Hustler Opportunities, Ms. Rosemary Kariuki  visited the newly  constructed Kangundo road market located in Mowlem Ward, Embakasi West Sub-County.

The County Executive was accompanied by Acting Chief Officer, Trade, Elizabeth Njau and Director,  Markets, Joyce Kyengo.

Kangundo3 1Kangundo road market was developed by the National Government through Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and funded by African Development Bank (AfDB) as a citizenship project for resettlement of traders who were displaced upon construction of Nairobi’s outering road corridor (C59 Improvement project)  as well as provide  for a new wholesale market outlet.

Said Ms. Kariuki, “Once officially unveiled this multi-use market ( for fresh food wholesale and retail,  as well as general merchandise  in designated areas)

will provide 1600 stalls to various Nairobi youth and traders in the city. When Governor Sakaja visited this market a couple of weeks ago he promised Traders operating from the parking lot that once the market was officially unveiled they would be allocated stalls. This promise still stands. Governor Sakaja’s Government will ensure the youth of Nairobi are not only  empowered but are  able to provide for themselves by conducting  business in this city.”
