Council Of Gov Meet

KANANU ATTENDS THE FULL COUNCIL OF GOVERNORS MEETING AT THE TAMARIND TREE HOTEL.

Nairobi 27th May, 2021

This morning , Nairobi City County Deputy Governor and Acting Governor, Ann Kananu  attended the Full Council of Governors meeting alongside Governors  from other counties at the Tamarind Tree Hotel.

Said H.E, Ann Kananu, “The last time we had the Extra Ordinary Virtual Council of Governors meeting we tackled a number of important agendas among them being Pension for the Governors, release of funds and Annual Devolution Conference. We equally had an interaction with the Auditor General which provided us with the opportunity to address a number of issues that affect County Governments during annual audit”.

H.E proposed that the Council extend an invitation to the Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority in the next Council of Governors meeting to address some of the taxation issues that perenially affect the County Governments. She also emphasised on how critical the position of the Governors office is, hence the holder of the office should be accorded pension even if they occupy the office for one term.

Said H.E Ann Kananu, “I’ve noted that delay on release of funds to counties affects the smooth running of the office including effects on cash flow availability for debt management and I’m requesting that the funds release stabilization facility that was proposed to be availed through the Central Bank be implemented to stabilize cash flow management for County Governments”.

The Acting Governor also emphasised the importance of counties in building the national economy particularly in driving industrial transformation of the country and  proposed the Governors pool ideas and formulate a practical and sustainable strategy for championing industrial transformation of the country at the county level.

Said H.E, Ann Kananu, “Our country is facing the challenge of youth bulge and unemployment at an alarming rate mainly manifesting itself in the urban areas. This proposed idea will enable county governments to pull resources together with the National Government to address youth unemployment and industrial transformation at county level.  My office is ready to provide a concept note towards this initiative”.
