Nairobi, 8th March 2025
As the County reaffirms its commitment to the advancement of women and girls rights, County Executive Committee Member for Inclusivity, Public participation and Customer Service Ms. Rosemary Kariuki Joined other women in commemorating international women’s day, at a forum themed “strengthening the voice of women and girls in Kenya.”
The event aimed to create a collaborative platform among various stakeholders, including Non-Governmental Organization, government agencies, the private sector and the local actors to create synergies that amplify gender equality.
While delivering her keynote address the County Executive stated that the County Government of Nairobi is committed to strengthening legal protections, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring the implementation of policies that promote gender equality.
“We are here today at a pivotal moment, one that calls for collective action, innovative solutions, and steadfast partnerships in addressing the challenges that continue to hinder gender equality and empowerment. The empowerment of women and girls is not just a social or moral obligation; it is an economic and developmental imperative. When women thrive, societies prosper. Despite notable progress, gender disparities persist in access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and leadership positions.” she said.
She added that the government remains at the forefront in shaping policies and frameworks that support gender inclusivity. “Our focus areas include strengthening public participation mechanisms to ensure women’s voices are heard in governance, enforcing laws that protect women from discrimination and gender-based violence and enhancing access to economic empowerment programs, including access to credit and training for women entrepreneurs.”
Ms. Kariuki went on to urge the different stakeholders present to join hands and ensure that inclusivity is not just a principle, but a lived reality for all women and girls.
“I am confident that with our combined efforts, commitment, and passion, we can build a more just and inclusive society where women and girls are not only protected but are also empowered to lead, innovate, and transform their communities.” she said.
