Nairobi, 15th May 2024

Nairobi City County Executive Committee Member in charge of Green Nairobi Mr. Ibrahim Auma today chaired County Agriculture Sector Steering Committee (CASSCOM), that is mandated to ensure agricultural programmes and projects in the County are well coordinated.

The Green Nairobi CECM termed CASSCOM as key in ensuring efficiency, effectiveness and accountability in service delivery by ensuring that agricultural activities are undertaken in areas that will yield optimal outcomes. This is in line with Nairobi Governor H.E Sakaja Johnson’s commitment of making Nairobi a City of order, dignity, and opportunity for all”. He said.
Casscom 3Mr. Auma noted that the question of urban food security and food safety issues as paramount and requires active partner support among agriculture sector stakeholders. ” By doing this, we will be able to mitigate  by  far the issue of food  insecurity, food safety  and support agricultural commercialization, by coming up with systems that guarantee the city population  of high  quality, enough and safe food for a healthy nation as indicated in  article  43(1c) of the Kenyan  Constitution  2010 and in line with the bottom up economic transformation agenda on food security.” Said the Green Nairobi Executive.

The Committee was updated on the just concluded Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme (ASDSP) 11 and the incoming Kenya Agricultural Business Development Project (KABDP) and thereafter, it approved the KABDP inception and 2024/2025 budget and work plan.

Mr. Auma assured the Committee that Nairobi remains open to new partnerships and promised a conducive environment by the County in supporting agricultural value chain actors.
Casscom 5CASSCOM is established in the County Governments with members drawn from the County government and key stakeholders for the purpose of facilitation of agriculture sectoral coordination. The body brings together agriculture state and non-state actors, and it is mandated to strengthen collaborations and linkages with public and private institutions in the management and delivery of agricultural programmes among other duties.
