Nairobi, 13th January, 2026
In a powerful display of compassionate leadership, Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson today personally facilitated the secondary school transition for several vulnerable students, ensuring that financial hardship does not derail the city’s brightest minds.
Highlighting the day’s activities, Governor Sakaja personally drove Nicholas Otieno and Moses Njiru, two orphaned students from Mukuru Kwa Njenga informal settlement, to State House Boys High School where the Governor settled their full Grade 10 tuition fees and personally oversaw their formal admission process, offering them a fresh start in one of the city’s premier institutions.
”These boys represent the resilience of Nairobi, by standing with Nicholas and Moses, we are sending a message to every child in Mukuru and beyond. Your background does not define your future. My administration is committed to making education the ‘great equalizer’ in our city.” said Governor Sakaja.
In addition to supporting the duo from Mukuru, Governor Sakaja extended financial sponsorship to five other deserving students from across Nairobi County who were facing similar financial barriers to joining Grade 10.
The Governor also took time to meet with Jasper Onyinkwa, a top-performing Nairobi student from Mangu High School who excelled in the recent KCSE examinations. The meeting served to reinforce the County’s commitment to rewarding academic excellence and fostering a culture of hard work among the youth.
Governor Sakaja’s individual acts of support complement the broader Kshs 170 Million Governor’s Scholarship Programme launched last week and will benefit over 4,000 vulnerable learners across Nairobi’s 85 wards.
