Governor HE Hon. Sakaja A. Johnson today called on contractors to use green materials to enable the county to have more environmental friendly buildings across the city.
He was speaking earlier today when he opened The Climate Action Zone under Green Building Society ahead of Africa Climate Change.
“There will be incentives and opportunities offered by my government for green buildings because we understand that we need to work together with you to make possible the green transformation of our city,” said Governor Sakaja.
He acknowledged the efforts the Green Building Society is taking in mobilization of resources to tackle the climate change.
Nairobi City County has undertaken measures to make Nairobi county by building 10 green Kitchens for School feeding program and in the process of rehabilitating the buildings in the city for a green city.
The county in partnership with green building society have come up with a process of certifying edge building making City Hall the first green building in the city.
Speaking during the same event Mama Doing Good CEO, Dr. Chumo commended Governor Sakaja for offering the needed leadership in climate change fight.
“The most affected people in climate change are women, children and the poor. And so Mama Doing Good envisions a equitable society where everybody lives a happy, healthy and transformed”, Dr Chumo added.
In a bid to to achieve reduction in carbon foot prints in the city and keeping Nairobi City green, earlier today Governor Sakaja flagged off a fleet of electric vehicles and motorcycles.
“My administration is inspiring city dwellers across the county to take bold action aimed at beating pollution and keeping the city green and we plan to give permits incentives to green architectures within the city.” Governor Sakaja said
As a burgeoning economy leads to a rapid increase in the number of personal vehicles on the road, a shift to electric mobility is instrumental in the push towards sustainable environment.
The Governor welcomes everyone to the Africa Climate summit in Nairobi.
