Nairobi Governor, H.E Johnson Sakaja accompanied by his deputy Njoroge Muchiri and members of the County Executive, convened a pivotal meeting with all Sub County administrators, ward administrators, sub county Commanders, Environment officers, Urban planning officers and engineers with aim of enhancing and improving service delivery in the county hence making Nairobi a City of Order.
The meeting was necessitated due to the recent notices issued by the County Government on hawking of merchandise in the Central Business District, repainting of buildings and installation of security lights as a way of building capacity and strengthening the framework of the sub county officers.
H.E the Governor underscored the importance of individual responsibility and accountability, emphasizing that each officer within the sub counties should implement their duties and ensure that there is order and cleanliness throughout the City. “Let me start by appreciating you all for the commendable work that you are doing on the ground. As we strive to make Nairobi a clean and orderly City I encourage you to adopt a proactive mindset, embrace collective responsibility, and prioritize teamwork. “He said.
H.E the deputy Governor said, “I urge you all to focus on your responsibilities to manage and govern efficiently. We should all align our efforts with the county’s manifesto to ensure seamless service delivery from the highest levels to the grassroots.”
The Chief of staff David Njoroge said,” I want to start by reminding you of our county’s mandate of ensuring we make Nairobi a City of hope, order, dignity and opportunities for all. This year we want to focus on bringing order in the city and I encourage you to openly share identified challenges, suggest solutions, and specify the support required to move forward effectively.”
The County Secretary Godfrey Akumali stated that the primary agenda of the meeting was to strategize on enhancing service delivery emphasizing on the need for teamwork while also urging the team to raise their issues and concerns with the relevant authorities for efficiency and effectiveness.
Mr. Ibrahim Auma County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Mobility and works stated that his sector had established frameworks to ensure orderliness within the city. “Strong coordination and partnerships have been fostered with the National Government, particularly under the Ministry of Roads and Transport, to enhance efficiency and resource sharing. Measures have also been implemented to enforce law and order in parking management across the city.” he stated.
His Counterpart in charge of Green Nairobi Ms. Maureen Njeri Said, “As we ensure we make Nairobi a City of Order, hope, dignity and opportunities for all our main priority as a sector is to ensure the CBD is clean therefore we have formulated a 3 shift system which has been implemented to ensure staff availability at all times and accelerate the cleaning efforts in the city. I urge all of you to join in on the clean ups as we strive to create change.”
CECM for Built Environment and urban planning, Mr. Patrick Mbogo in his remarks stated that the Planning Sector has made significant strides in ensuring the provision of capacity across various sub sectors. Key accomplishments include the rollout of signage operations to all sub-counties, establishing a framework for compliance with signage regulations, and advancing a bill set to become an Act on development compliance. In line with the devolution of functions, the sector has appointed key personnel, including land officers and surveyors, in the sub counties.
The County Attorney Ms. Christine Ireri urged the enforcement team to cease the arrest of menial workers and focus on apprehending the actual offenders, the developers who are responsible for the violations. She emphasized on the importance of adhering to the law when making arrests to prevent exposing the county to unnecessary litigations.
Present at the meeting were CECMs for innovation and digital economy Mr. Mike Gumo, Health, wellness and Nutrition Ms. Suzanne Silantoi, Finance Mr. Charles Kerich, Talent Skills development and care Mr. Brian Mulama. Also present were County Chief officers including Priscilla Mahinda in charge Office of the Governor, Geoffrey Mosiria Environment, Bram Simiyu Disaster management, Patrick Analo urban planning, Machel Waikenda Mobility, Tony kimani Security and Compliance together with county Directors, deputy directors and assistant directors.
