Governor Sakaja flags off Nairobi County’s KICOSCA team- Urges team to defend titles won in 2023

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja today officially flagged off the Nairobi City County team participating in the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games set to take place in Kakamega from 25th -30th November 2024. The event, held at City Hall, demonstrated the county’s commitment to promoting talent, teamwork, and cultural integration through sports.

Governor Sakaja, accompanied by CEC Talent Skills Development and Care Brian Mulama, CEC Finance and Economic Planning Mr. Charles Kerich, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform exceptionally well in the week-long tournament. He emphasized the importance of sports and culture in fostering unity and providing a platform for talent development among county staff.

The Governor also highlighted the county’s ongoing efforts to improve sports facilities. Key projects include the construction and renovation of sports grounds such as Joe Kadenge Stadium, Ziwani Grounds, Mwiki and Joseph Kang’ethe Grounds among other projects which are expected to offer modern amenities for both training and competitions. “These initiatives aim to nurture young talent, promote physical fitness, and provide safe recreational spaces for residents” said the Governor.
Kicosca2024 4The Nairobi delegation, composed of athletes, cultural performers, and other officials, is expected to compete in various disciplines, including football, volleyball, athletics, Badminton and Golf as the newest introduction of sports in the County. Governor Sakaja wished them success, urging them to represent Nairobi with dignity and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship.

Basketball- women, Choir own composition, Squash, Badminton, Darts, Table Tennis, Netball, Athletics and Traditional dance Rwandees, solidifying its reputation as a powerhouse in inter-county competitions. Governor Sakaja praised the team’s previous performances, expressing confidence that they would uphold Nairobi’s dominance in the games.
Kicosca2024 3KICOSCA is an annual event that brings together county government employees to compete and interact, promoting cohesion and collaboration among the 47 counties in Kenya.

Present during the flag off were Chief Officers Oscar Igaida, Youth, Talent and Sports, Tony Kimani Security and Compliance, Asha Abdi Finance among other senior officers.
