Governor Kananu secures form one admission for needy Nairobi student

A family in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums is happy after Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu came to their aid, paying school fees for their 13-year-old son who risked missing out on secondary school.

Barrack Mathew Nyaribari scored 411 marks in the 2021 KCPE.

He was called to Mang’u high school but the family lacked school fees take him there.

Kananu chipped in to ensure the bright boy does not miss out on an opportunity to join a prestigious national school.

On a chilly Wednesday, a team of officers from Nairobi city county arrived at Mukuru Kwa Njenga at around 09:45AM.

They found Mzee Douglas Nyaribari, 48, in a sad mood, wondering how he will not disappoint his son.

The single father struggles to make ends meet and feed his family.

Governor Kananu said her administration will do whatever it takes in order to make all Nairobians happy and enjoy the good fruits of devolution.

“This is what leaders are mandated to do. We should not seat and watch as our people go without food or good education. We should be supportive regardless of color, religion, tribe or family background,” she said.

Barrack was issued with an executive bursary that will cater the the four years in secondary school.

Nyaribari is a water vendor but also sells other commodities to supplement his income.

He thanked the Governor for the support and good service delivery.

“At first, when I saw the county car I thought they’re county askaris looking for offenders.

“But I am very delighted, Governor. In my life, I have never boarded a county registered car with nice music and cool air from the AC. May our good God bless you,” the grateful Nyaribari said.

Kananu asked the family, once back at the village, to rally behind ODM leader Raila Odinga so as to push him to the presidency.

She noted that she is in office because President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila saw her as a great performer.

“Education is key. Let our children take studies with seriousness. I am where I am because of education. Rally behind Raila Odinga until he becomes the president and life will be better for all of us,” Kananu said.

The Governor was accompanied by county chief of staff Paul Mutungi.
