Nairobi City County Executive for Green Nairobi Mr. Ibrahim Auma today hosted Professor Engineer Bainomugusha, the Chief Executive Officer and founder of AirQO – Makerere University in his office to discuss areas of collaboration on matters Air Quality in the city of Nairobi.
The two met moments after International day of Clean Air for blue skies celebrations and the launch of Air Quality Monitoring site on the Nairobi city County Website by Nairobi County Governor H.E Sakaja Johnson at City Hall.
Mr. Auma expressed his gratitude to the AirQO for partnering with the County on Air Quality and the broader Climate Change. AirQO has partnered with the County’s Climate Change department in installing Air Quality Monitoring gadgets in the city.
The County Executive mentioned that Governor Sakaja is so committed on ensuring better environment and a better City, therefore offering the much needed support to the Green Nairobi Sector.
“The County will work towards having more air monitors in a bid to ensuring clean air. The Governor is interested in service delivery. Thus, we look forward to collaborations where we can show progress and results.” Said Mr. Auma.
Professor Bainomugusha thanked the County Government for its willingness to partner with AirQO in ensuring clean air dream in the city is achieved. He promised more future collaborations.
The two agreed on the need to engage citizens on pointing out activities that pollute the air, as well as capacity build Climate Change champions in the County Government.
Mr. Auma also met with Ms. Wanjira Mathai, the Managing Director for Africa and Global Partnerships at the World Resources Institute (WRI).
Present were the County Deputy Director for Climate Change and Air Quality monitoring Mr. Maurice Kavai and the Assistant Director, Climate Change and Air Quality Monitoring Ms. Grace Ojiayo.
