Chengdu, China. 18th April 2024
Nairobi City yesterday engaged in a global Cities Friendship & Cooperation Dialogue with 39 foremost Cities from 35 Countries in Chengdu City, Republic of China.
Delivering H. E Governor Sakaja’s perspectives on the future of Nairobi City, Director for Donor Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement Kefa Omanga had the following to say:
“Nairobi City faces the future with great optimism as a leading metropolis with a good reputation and global influence among its peers. It remains on the trajectory of Order, Dignity, Hope and Opportunity for all.
Governor Sakaja A. Johnson is leading a rethink of the future of the City through the Nairobi Vision 2050 blue print. The plan seeks to provide a long term investment road map for a modern City with production capacity powered by cutting edge technology, research, development and innovation while offering opportunity for all to prosper. The City is already gaining transformational traction in key sectors including Health, Education, Infrastructure and Trade.
Establishment of innovation hubs, technology parks, special economic zones, vibrant manufacturing bases, incubation Centres for startups, Talent academies and facilitating digital economy are some of the envisaged touchpoints for unlocking the City’s economic potential.
Prime investment opportunities exist in mobility, Trade Infrastructure systems, Micro and Small Enterprises, Industrial Parks, Technical Training, Renewable Energy and Healthcare services among others. The County Government has prioritized a review of the legal, policy and regulatory frameworks with a view to improve the Trade and Investment climate so as to attract and retain quality investments for growth and development”.
He added “Nairobi holds the position that Cities must connect not just through policies, but through people—by linking production, markets, cultures, and innovative solutions that address the challenges we face in our Cities.
It is urgent and important that City leaders’ intentionality transition from consensus to action now for impactful change to be achieved”.
Present was Director for Intergovernmental Relations Joyce Kinyanjui.
