The successful case of Mukuru SPA was revisited as a good example of multi-stakeholder partnership. Mukuru was declared a special planning area in August 2017 by Nairobi county government. which covers 689 acres, population of 400,000 people, households 100,561 with 6 public schools and 147 unregistered schools.
Nairobi City County, Health,Wellness and Nutrition County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr. Anastasia Nyalita in the company of County Executive Committee Member for Green Nairobi Ms. Maureen Njeri and Executive County Member for Talent Skill Mr Brian Mulama articulated potential areas of partnership with the consortium towards strengthening the informal sector to progressively realise the right to food.
The proposal from the partners is to assist in the setting up of the kitchen within Mukuru for the informal schools. Initiate controlled farming activities such as Greenhouses and ensure food vendors cooperatives make profits to support their livelihood. This technical working group agreed to submit a draft Memorandum Of Understanding(MOU) for the partnership to be successful.
The Consortium brings together TMG Research a global ThinkTank for Sustainability, Akiba Mashinani Trust and MAIMAR International Foundation.
