Three in court for illegal dumping of garbage
The County Government 23rd May, 2018 arraigned three men in court for dumping garbage in the Central Business Area.
The two men and a woman were accused of dumping garbage on Sheikh Karume Lane on the night of 22rd May, 2018. The three, are employees of Nascos Services restaurant based at Veteran House on Moi Avenue.
Mr Boke Stephen Wahere, Kevin Onyango Dede and Mary Moraa Sagwe were to take a plea at the City magistrate's court before we went to press.
The same court released Mr Timothy Njoroge Karanja on a cash bill of Kshs 50,000 for allegedly discharging raw waste into River Njongera, a tributary of Nairobi River.
The County Assistant Director for Environment and Compliance Mr Lawrence Mwangi told the press that the county is alarmed by the many cases of dumping and discharge of waste to the rivers in the city.
The County officer said. “The county officers are making arrests of between 25 to 30 people every day. We have identified the main points of discharge and dumping and we are going to win this war. The County has heightened operations to ensure that the city and the rivers are safe and clean.”
The most notorious pollutants areas according to the County environmental officer are Waithaka, Dagoretti Corner and Kawangware.
The county and the national governments have set in motion a vigorous initiatives dubbed “Regeneration of the city” which is geared towards reclaiming the glory of the city.
