Sonko to construct five stadiums in the city

Governor Sonko is set to construct five stadiums in his quest to provide recreational facilities to enhance sporting skills and nurture talent for the youth in the city. The construction of five the stadiums at Jacaranda Grounds, Dandora, Kariakor, Kihumbuni and Woodley in Langata are set to start as soon as the desigs and plans are complete. However, public participation will be conducted and all stakeholders consulted. The sporting grounds will meet FIFA standards and will encompass utilities like changing rooms, referee rooms, inbuilt restaurants among other amenities.
Touring the five sites, County Executice Committee Member,Education, Sports and Youth Hon. Janet Ouko said, "Governor Sonko is committed to the provision of social and recreational facilities to ensure that the youth is positively engaged and kept away from social distractions. More importantly, the facilities will be equiped and will act as centres for identifying and nurturing talent." Janet said that the County will engage all stakeholders in all aspects during the development of the facilities.
Speaking during the tour at Kariakor grounds, the area Member of the County Assembly Ms Millicent Mugandi assured the minister of her total support and urged the County Government to involve all players, adding, "I am delighted that this project will be a game changer for our youth, who will use the facilities to horn their skills in various sporting disciplines, enhancing their chances to be enrolled in national and international clubs.
At Dandora grounds, Mr Ken Ochieng a local football team manager welcomed the news and reaffirmed the community's total support.
The County Education boss was accompanied by the Ag. County Chief Officer, Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, Ruth Awuor, Director Sports, Samuel Obiero, Deputy Director Sports, John Barasa, representatives from Kenya Football Federation and team and coach managers from various clubs in the city.
