Governor Sonko consoles Kijiji fire victims

Nairobi: Monday 19th February 2018

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko gave a personal donation of Sh100,000 to each family that lost their loved ones during the fire tragedy that occurred on Sunday 28th January 2018 at Kijiji informal settlement in Langata Sub County.
Acting County Secretary Leboo Ole Morintat and Chief of Staff Kamau Mugo delivered the Governor's message of condolences to the bereaved families at Chiromo Funeral Parlour where successful forensic tests to identify the charred remains were conducted. 

While addressing media on the sidelines of the funeral home, Mr Morintant said, " the County Government has established elaborate plans to make all the informal settlements in the city habitable by providing necessary amenities." 

When the Governor visited the village on the night of 29th January 2018, he said, "I am greatly saddened by this unfortunate incident and I condole with families and friends for the loss of their loved ones."

Out of the five remains, four have been positively identified.

Mr Leboo announced the camp at Ngei Primary School where survivors of the fire tragedy have been staying will be closed tomorrow, 20th Tuesday, February 2018.
