SPEECH BY H.E MIKE MBUVI SONKO, GOVERNOR NAIROBI CITY COUNTY DURING THE LAUNCH OF THE OXYGEN PLANT AT MAMA LUCY HOSPITAL ON MARCH 6TH 2018

I am happy to join you today and to preside over the official launch of the  Oxygen Plant. This is the first Public-Private Partnership project of its kind in the County of Nairobi. The partnership involves Nairobi City County Government, the United Nations and the private sector.
Installation of this plant marks a big stride towards realization of affordable and accessible health care.
The oxygen produced here will be used in Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, Mbagathi Hospital, Pumwani Maternity Hospital as well as all health facilities in the county. It will also be sold to other health facilities, both public and private.

It is important to note that this plant will help save  around 20 million shillings every year.  This money can then be reallocated to other development projects within the hospital.
Oxygen is critical in emergency care; as medical experts present here will tell you. This plant will go towards saving lives for years to come.
The project we are launching today is the largest public plant in East Africa. It is through such strategic partnerships that delivery of critical healthcare solutions to all Kenyans can be fast-tracked.
I wish to thank UNICEF, Hewa Tele, DFID for supporting the  project. Thank you and God bless you.

H.E MIKE MBUVI SONKO, EGH
